Eventide – Psychological Thriller

‘Eventide’ Psychological Thriller: fragility of the serrated edges of the mind.

‘Dark Star crashes, pouring its light into ashes…
Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter…
Shall we go, you and I while we can…
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds…. ‘

According to common definition, a “psychological thriller” is a thriller subgenre that focuses on the unstable emotional or mental states of the characters, often in combination with elements of mystery, suspense or psychological torture. The engine of a psychological thriller is emotional and psychological abuse.

In a psychological thriller, characters don’t rely on their physical strength to overcome their victims. But rather on their mental resources, and often the enemies are not external (other characters or circumstances) but internal (phobias, insanity, urges, feelings, fears). The conflicts are usually played out through mind games, deception, and manipulation, or even sustained attempts to demolish the victim’s mental equilibrium, as opposed to the physical action in classic thrillers. In a psychological thriller, the nature of the protagonist is often questioned, and what appear as a good or benign character is revealed to be monstrous and dangerous.

‘Eventide’ psychological thriller deals first and foremost with the human mind. Its most common themes are philosophical and psychological in nature, such as identity, honesty, determinism, fatalism, sanity, duplicity, and the exploration of the darker sides of the human behavioral motivation. It is less aimed at direct entertainment, and more at provoking shifts and understanding of the human mind.

The characteristics of ‘Eventide’ are close, embedded in my soul. I’ve tried to weave the drama as a series of short stories. Focusing on the slow meltdown of the victim; to exemplify the chaotic nature of the relationship in a way that centers your awareness on the fragility of serrated minds. I’m certain I haven’t “nailed it” perfectly. It’s my greatest goal as a writer to capture and engage the reader in the psychological trauma; to bring a discerning understanding to the complex patterns and process of emotional abuse as a psychological thriller.
